Title:  BNSF 4644 - BNSF 5405

BNSF 5351
Title:  BNSF 5351
Description:  BNSF 5351 sitting on at the west end of Wishram exchange as seen from across the river in Oregon (see? Blowing this type shot for the Sony is more than understandable - racked out zoom, traveling at highway speeds, shooting across the better half who is driving and has barely cracked her window because its below freezing in freezing fog - and shooting at least a quarter mile away... _this_ is the shot where I shouldnt be able to read the registry number. Go figure.)

BNSF 4539
Title:  BNSF 4539
Description:  BNSF 4539 lone pusher curling in and around the curves of the river, the basalt cuts create a peek-a-boo effect as she snakes through view (several other shots show this train disappearing/partially/completely through this section - for once, the Sony was snapping quickly enough... or more correctly, the subject was moving slow enough.)

BNSF 5113 - BNSF 5110
Title:  BNSF 5113 - BNSF 5110
Description:  BNSF 5113 - BNSF 5110 two at the front of a westbound line of covered hoppers just west of the picturesque bridge (of course!) with trailing DPU never landing on sensor even remotely in focus/without impeding telephone/electric pole in front of them.

BNSF 5113
Title:  BNSF 5113
Description:  BNSF 5113 leader on a double-double westbound covered hopper train - and it only looks like Ive unsharpened/sharpened/sharpened again the final image... oh, wait, I did, in an effort to compensate for the illustrious Sony soft focus.

BNSF 6823
Title:  BNSF 6823
Description:  BNSF 6823 in second place at the front two swirling in and out of basalt cuts slowly making her way further into the frozen foggy mist. (further up in the hills... trying to make excuses for the soft focus.)

BNSF 8136 - BNSF 6823
Title:  BNSF 8136 - BNSF 6823
Description:  BNSF 8136 - BNSF 6823 double on double-stack headend going east above the Dalles Dam through foggy hills and unusually calm waters. (If anyones interested in modeling the Columbia River mains in winter, this is pretty prototypical for most of BNSFs run along the north side of the river with the basalt cliffs and sometimes tight drop-offs.)

BNSF 8136
Title:  BNSF 8136
Description:  BNSF 8136 leading her line of loaded well cars east up river... and not to be hyper-critical, because the Sony is zoomed in most of her potential for optical (but not completely) - but my hand is frozen against a steel pole bracing and pressing the camera solidly into it to create a tripod-like effect... plus 1/1000s f6.3 exposure at ISO 800... this image should NOT be this soft of focus. When you get frostbite on your palm and edge of hand in an effort to use every means possible at 1/1000 second images (more than fast enough for this degree of zoom) I expect a lot more than this. And so continues my anti sales pitch. I guess this little trip has proven what I *wont* be bringing on the next critical photo trip... guess the next travel budget will need an extra few hundred for a Canon pocket snapper to replace what should be a perfectly good Sony. Anyone interested in a used Sony pocket snapper? How the heck Sony rates so high on these small cameras, I will never know - I guess most folks dont want sharpness in their images (yes, it also required severe color correction - sure, a slightly challenging monochromatic scene, but, honestly, needing to have color temperature tweaked, RGB tweaked, contrast-exposure by 20-30% compensated digitally (suggesting ISO 800 was too fast - ISO 200 wouldve been much closer)... wait, if Im trying to sell it, possibly not the best pitch. Dang.)

Covered Hoppers
Title:  Covered Hoppers
Description:  Covered Hoppers trundling over the classic arched concrete bridge at Lyle - sorry, just thought it was a pretty picture, even with the fishing boat stabbing through the unusually calm waters (unfortunately we were racing freezing fog so the better half snapped this one at highway speed.)
